WA Board of Nursing Rules Filed – Effective February 23, 2024
The Board of Nursing Home Administrators has passed rules that will become effective on February 23, 2024. These rules include:
- Changing Application Requirements to allow a recognized institution to submit documentation recognizing that the applicant has completed the requirements for a baccalaureate degree and adding organizations that review foreign transcripts that are recognized by a department of health board or program as recognized by the board of nursing home administrators.
- Updating Administrator-in-Training (AIT) Requirements, which include specifically indicating that the AIT program is part of the application for full licensure, asking for specific documentation when a reduced program is requested, requiring a preceptor form for AIT program approval, specifying that both preceptors shall complete quarterly reports when an individual in an AIT program has more than one preceptor and requiring the project report be due ten days before the end of the AIT program.
- Continuing Education Requirements are changed to require two hours of health equity education every four years. These hours are part of the total 36 hours required for the continuing education cycle. Free classes that meet health equity continuing education are available at the department of health website.
- Expired License return to active status is changed to require the applicant submit proof of completing the new administrator law training if the applicant did not do so prior to their license expiring.
- Temporary Practice Permit rules are amended to allow the requirements for an administrator-in-training exemption to also be used for a temporary license. The process is also changed to allow for quicker processing.
- A Retired Active License is adopted to allow individuals to work for not more than 90 days in a year or to work in emergent circumstances. This credential can be obtained by an individual who holds an active status and requests in writing to be placed on retired active status. The renewal fee for this credential is less than a full license.
The Department of Health has also passed a rule for the fee of the Retired Active Status. That fee is set at $150.
