COURSE OVERVIEW:

In June 2017, CMS released a Survey and Certification Memo 17-30 s (and updated it again in 2018) stating that healthcare facilities should develop and adhere to a compliant water management program. These water management programs help reduce the risk for Legionella and other pathogens in their water systems. Healthcare facilities have complex water systems that may promote growth of pathogenic organisms if not properly maintained. For this reason, the CMS feels that it is essential that nursing homes have a water management program that is effective in limiting the growth and spread of Legionella and other opportunistic pathogens of premise plumbing in their facility.

This webinar will focus on nursing home’s responsibility for water management and assessing and controlling Legionnaires’ disease. It will also review critical elements of a water management program and how to follow CMS QSO-17-30 leaving you with a better understanding of what to do and how to prepare for an audit.

SPEAKER:

Kenneth Daily, LNHA, President, Elder Care Systems Group and Life Safety and Emergency Management Specialist, is founder and President of Elder Care Systems Group, and has a long track record of experience leading people, building teams, and best practices and quality control for healthcare programs. In 2004, Mr. Daily learned firsthand the critical importance of the LSC and Emergency Preparedness when a facility he operated suffered a significant fire event.  No resident or staff member was injured but the facility sustained millions of dollars in damages, taking more than a year to complete reconstruction.  Empowered by this experience, Kenn set to learn and share with health care professionals the importance of compliance with the NFPA’s Life Safety Code to ensure the safest building for those we serve. Mr. Daily has served more than 20 years on the Ohio Health Care Association Board of Trustees.  Mr. Daily serves as the chair of the OHCA’s Life Safety and Disaster Management Committee. He also serves on the AHCA’s Life Safety & Emergency Preparedness Committee as well as the NFPA’s Health Care Section and its Executive Board. Kenn is a frequent and engaging speaker, having lectured nationwide at professional conferences, trainings and other sponsored events sharing insights on long term care operations, quality, survey, disaster management and life safety code as well as authoring and editing numerous articles and professional manuals
